Peeasy
A playful, community-driven app that helps users quickly find clean, safe bathrooms in stressful, urgent situations.
THE PROBLEM
Users frequently struggle with:
Unclear or outdated bathroom locations
Lack of information about cleanliness, safety, or accessibility
Anxiety and embarrassment when searching in public
Overly utilitarian apps that don’t reduce stress in urgent moments
Most existing solutions focus on where bathrooms are, but not whether users should actually use them. Peeasy asks:
How might we design a bathroom-finding experience that is fast, trustworthy, and emotionally supportive in moments of urgency?
RESEARCH AND USER INTERVIEWS
Understanding the problem
To understand the problem, I conducted interviews with peers from different populated cities, asking a simple question:
“Have you ever panicked trying to find a bathroom in public?”
Across different settings, campus, travel, and everyday outings, they shared similar stories of urgency, stress, and uncertainty. Many described not knowing where nearby bathrooms were, whether they were open or clean, or a bad experience with a current bathroom app that ended up requiring a purchase.
These conversations made it clear that when someone needs a bathroom, there’s no time to search, guess, or wander.
Key takeaway: Finding a bathroom today feels stressful, uncertain, and harder than it should be.

REFLECTIONS
Peeasy challenged me to think about UX design in moments of vulnerability and urgency. Designing for high-stress scenarios reinforced the importance of simplicity, trust signals, and emotional tone. I learned that even seemingly small, everyday problems can have a significant emotional impact—and that thoughtful design can meaningfully reduce stress when it matters most.
IF I HAD MORE TIME...
With additional time, I would deepen Peeasy’s impact by expanding both research and engagement:
Conduct broader user testing across diverse accessibility needs, including mobility challenges and medical conditions, to ensure the experience is inclusive and reliable for all users.
Refine personalization by tailoring recommendations based on user habits, frequent locations, and past preferences.
Introduce incentives or light gamification to encourage high-quality, trustworthy reviews.
Evolve the UI to be more playful, and add customization features—such as allowing users to personalize their profiles or “design their own bathroom”—to increase delight and long-term engagement.
